Chronology of Significant Events (continued)

1989
Soon after landing a contract with Eloquent Systems Inc. in February 1989, Transamerica moved from its office on Melville Street to a private office located just next door to Eloquent Systems’ corporate offices located on 15th Street and Lonsdale Avenue in North Vancouver, British Columbia.

Eloquent Systems was a developer of library and archive software systems and while working with them, Transamerica went from phoning distributors to phoning schools, institutions, and corporations, the end-users of these library and archive systems.  This move away from phoning distribution channels to direct sales would eventually be incorporated into Transamerica’s processes.

Furthermore, Transamerica’s contract with Eloquent Systems led to phoning archives, which in turn, gave birth to Transamerica’s “association attack,” an intensive targeting strategy that taps into the vast pool of resources provided by independent organizations, associations, and other relevant business communities.

In November, Transamerica landed a contract with Richmond Technologies & Software Inc. in Richmond, British Columbia.  Richmond Technologies introduced Transamerica to Maximizer, the contact management software that changed the course of Transamerica.

Tom O’Flaherty was then the President of Richmond Technologies & Software Inc.  David had previously met Tom in 1986 when Tom was Co-founder of Bedford Accounting Software which later became Simply Accounting, and David was the Associate Publisher of CHIP: Greater Vancouver’s Micro-Computing SourceguideCHIP was Vancouver’s metropolitan directory of the entire microcomputer industry including manufacturers, distributors, dealers, consultants, and software developers.

Tom encouraged David to use their software when tracking their project.  Before this time, Transamerica had been using Q&A, a flat file database software, developed by Symantec Inc., to keep track of contact records.  Maximizer proved to be an extremely efficient piece of software to use, and through Maximizer, Transamerica was able to fine-tune its internal procedures to make contact management software a key component of its processes.
